The physical positions and the concept of live energy

Psycho-physical techniques. The physical positions are also defined as psycho-physical techniques, due to the mental component included on the performance of the more than 2000 positions codified on the DeRose Method. The physical performance is merely the entrance to the effective accomplishment of the exercise. Once the body adjusts to the position, the true practice begins, with the use of localization of consciousness, coordinated breathing and mentalizations.

Permanence. In addition to these, one of the main features of these techniques is the permanence, in opposition to the western model of doing body movements with repetition. When the practitioner remains on the position, the latter acts deeply over the muscle fuses, receptors inside the muscle cell that are connected with tone and protection against the risk of strain. The permanence on the position, allied to the localized attention, coordinated breathing and mentalizations, allow the position to communicate with the muscle fuses, stimulating them to decrease their defensive control over the muscle. Thus, the muscle fibre decrease their level of contraction, stretching.

Release of energy. When the muscle fibre stretch, all the volume of accumulated energy to keep the muscle retraction throughout the years is progressively released, transformed into live energy. Therefore, the more assiduous the practice is, the quicker and greater the amount of released energy.

Above the average. When we combine the time and the frequency of the training of the physical positions with the other groups of techniques of a typical class of the method, the result is an individual living with a quota of strength and energy well above the average.

Imagine… And to close our post, I invite you to imagine the areas over which you wish to apply this natural, extra power, which comes from the release of physical and psychic forces, and the positive outcome of this channelling of force.

Meditation Spotlight

According to the Oxford Dictionary of English: Meditation means “focus(ing) one’s mind for a period of time, in silence or with the aid of chanting, for religious or spiritual purposes or as a method of relaxation.”
This is a very interesting definition, but clearly for someone who has studied the matter its flaws become clear. The state of meditation, or dhyána, is a state which can be described as linear intuition. Its technique certainly allows for the mind to be focused and may use symbols (interestingly referenced in the definition as silence, for no one observing someone metalizing a symbol will be able to hear anything!) or sounds (which the definition above refers to chanting).

The purpose of meditating, however, has never been a subject of debate. Whilst the roots that influence different types of practices may be naturalistic or religious, the goal of meditation is to achieve a higher state of consciousness, that of linear intuition.

In order to achieve this state, DeRose Method students train their technical execution on Saturday at 10:00. Visit our Timetable for more information!

Absorbing the effects of the techniques

Managing stress, refining emotions  In the deepest state of rest and absorption of the effects of the techniques, the regeneration that takes place goes beyond the mere physical metabolization, by which all organic tissues are revitalized and strengthened, directed for perfect functioning, health and longevity. In this deep state pre-conceptions as well as prejudices are suspended, those reserves that prevent us from self-awareness and, ultimately, from self-realization.

Even if we don’t realize it, an important part of our drive is dissipated with the clash between conscious intentions and unconscious dispositions, very often resistances to conscious intents – not always for our benefit. This inner tension is expressed through a high level of stress and overwhelming emotions. The intimate personal work that takes place during the deeper stage promotes changes on conscious intentions and unconscious dispositions, according to the truest aspirations of the individual.

The disagreement between both conscious and unconscious determinations is gradually solved, as goals that assert the true aspirations come through and are addressed. This diminishes and eventually stops the dissipation of one’s finest driving energy, enabling it to be purposefully directed to those aims. With the regular practice of this technique of absorption of the effects, especially when preceded by the other techniques (breathing, organic cleansing and physical positions, and others), the practitioner builds the setting for personal accomplishment that is gradually translated into the practical initiatives that design a harmonious reality, free of stress and rich with favorable emotions.

Personalized, individual attention to practitioners

In our relationship with our practitioners everyone is an individual. This means that practitioners have a program developed exclusively for them which follows the guidelines of the DeRose Method and which is personalized. The ultimate objective is to achieve individual progress and evolution.

Practitioners select an Instructor to work with them on this personal development program, setting goals and objectives. Practitioners and their instructors will then monitor the progress consistently and constantly. This program follows the guidelines and the stages outlined in the DeRose Method’s evolutive scale. Each practitioner can go as far into this scale as they desire (although your instructor will always be hoping for a graduation to the next level).

Everyone starts at the DeRose Method at the first degree, beginner. The graduation to the next degree takes place when the practitioner fulfills certain predefined criteria which will also be part of the individual development program. Each stage after that generates a quality improvement producing an effective development goal at each stage of the process.

Are practitioners obliged to progress? Of course not! Our Method can be easily personalized so that each individual can have the experience that is best for them. However, your instructor will always want to have goals to help you to improve.

Through a practitioners’ program the objective is always to maintain evolution and achieve ever higher levels of performance, development and satisfaction!

Absorbing the effects of the practice

Absorbing the effects of the techniques of the practice is, in itself, a technique, the specific moment of the practice to metabolize all the previous parts. It is the most effective tool for eliminating stress. Initially, the technique aims to rest and relax the whole body, into a progressively deeper state. With the regular practice, this leads to a threshold between sleep and vigil, when all your best capacities as an individual are enhanced – all the skills, gifts and qualities.

You can then positively affect your emotions and your intentions, aims and projects, improving your ability to get things done. The energy generated throughout the practice is specifically aimed at personal accomplishment, emotional stability and overcoming inner tensions.

Consolidating strength, power and energy

The terms originally associated with the ancient techniques that make the DeRose Method are strength, power and energy. The technique of absorption of the effects of the practice is yet another way to achieve these three main results.

An attentive look at the techniques The terms strength, power and energy are consistently repeated in the ancient texts as results of the practice, results that naturally percolate from the physical to the emotional level, the intellectual and intuitional levels and beyond. An attentive look at the techniques will only confirm this.

The breathing techniques increase the quota of vital energy, they regulate the impact of emotions increasing the power of focus, the combination of both effects brings a greater inner and outer strength.

The detoxifying effect of the organic cleansing techniques, revitalizing organic tissues and regulating hormonal release, improves the flux of energy and enhances it, with a direct increase in organic power and strength.

The physical positions infuse the energy throughout the body, strengthening muscles, tendons, ligaments, articulations, bones, with a direct increase of physical power. The technique for the absorption of the effects of the practice comes as a tool to entirely assimilate these effects, consolidating the three main results of the practice.

Physical Positions

The physical positions, pleasurable and firm, are executed in a choreographic way, without repetitions and linked by movements of transition. In the first stage, the physical positions develop body awareness, motor coordination, and the elasticity of the tissues, articular flexibility and muscle tone. With regular practice, in order to progress further, you will learn how to keep the positions stable, comfortable and aesthetic: the breathing must be conscious, deep (abdominal and complete) and rhythmic (regular), while you localise your consciousness, focus on mental images, colours and sounds, and maintain a deep feeling of intention and a strong sense of purpose.

Muscular tension and energy When we practice the physical positions, they unravel the complete picture of our muscle and articular limitations. Many of these limitations are a result of tensions.

The phenomenon of muscular tension The muscles have a great capacity to contract. Each and every stimulus captured by the senses produces a reaction of contraction on our musculature. When we interpret the stimulus as a threat to our integrity, our muscular network contracts, building a protective shield with the aim of reducing the impact of the intimidation on our vital areas.

Partial contraction Once the threat ceases, the muscles return to their point of rest, partial contraction or muscle tone, which is the ideal stage for the muscles to initiate a contraction immediately after receiving a sign from the nervous centres. In complete relaxation, the muscle would take too long to react to the stimulus, placing survival in risk.

Stiffness However, if a threat is present for a long time (months or years), the muscle tone gets deformed, leaving the tissues retracted, stiff and the muscles lose the ability to return to the level of rest or partial contraction.

Tiredness and pain This way, we deteriorate our flexibility, the flow of blood in the muscles, the reflexes, the sensory perception, increasing the accumulation of toxic products on the cells and predisposing the muscle network to tiredness and pain.

The origin of threats

Fear The vast majority of the chronic muscular tensions have their origin in fear, a basic, instinctive emotion, crucial for the evolution of mammals. The function of this feeling is to scan the environment in search of real or imaginary threats.

Education In Man, this emotion is trained through education, and conditioned and improved regarding the norms and rules of collective life. Some people express mostly reserve and opposition, while others express courage and trust. Many factors determine their behaviour: the place and time, family values, ethnic values, genetic aspects, among others.

Training These factors shape the way each of us interprets the flow of life events. If we regard them as threats, we will be stiff. If we regard them as part of our training to continuously improve, we will fell at ease. After all, what really matters is the way we see reality, not reality itself…

The energetic cost of muscular tensions

Stagnant energy Hypertonic muscles, with too much tension, demand a continuous flow of energy to keep their retraction. Energy poorly channeled. which remains stagnant, directed to maintaining the shield of muscle armour, with the purpose of self-defense. The trouble is that 90% of the threats exist only in our imagination. Because our energy is limited, we feel continuously tired and a permanent sensation of physical, emotional and mental impotence.

Western model We spend years focusing exclusively on work, the need of acknowledgement, security and comfort, decades of a life-style that tends to anxiety, dispersion, and lack of inner bodily communication. The consequence of this model is that our intercostal muscles, the extensors of the spine, the anterior and posterior muscles of the thighs, nape, back, face, arms, and other, fell a chronic lack of rest, of a healthy tone, relaxed and comfortable. This condition affects the breathing, flexibility, concentration, sleep, humour, leading us to a low quality life, without the perception of value and priority.

A very important thing many of us forget.

Today I would like to talk about something that our society does not pay much attention, but it is of incredible fundamental importance for us all.

This is the process of excretion.

I know this may seem crazy, but some days ago i was talking to a friend of mine who complained of abdominal pain. When I asked her what was going on, she was a little shy and uncomfortable to admit that she had not been to the toilet in the last three days. Three days? Unbelievable, not even an alarm had sounded that maybe something was wrong with her. It is scary to know that in our society, especially nowadays, this is something common. Many people with whom I have talked to end up telling me that they have some form of problem in this area. Many people are not aware that accumulating this process may generate serious disturbances in the digestive system and unfortunately, if it carries on, cancer.

It’s important that we pay attention to this small factor, reeducating our of digestive system, without paranoia, nor radicalism. Taking small steps we can maintain ourselves healthy.

And so I would like to share with you some small tips which are nothing new, but which may be able to help you:

1. Drink water, keep your body hydrated, it works better this way. Your faeces will transit more easily through your intestines this way.

2. Eat fruit, leaf vegetables, legumes, other vegetables in this order, when possible (and always with their peel).

3. Try to avoid in the maximum way possible meats of any kind, cheeses, and flour.

4. Eat many fruits as you can, when possible with their peel, they are the perfect nutritional food. The more variety of colours the better. If you intestines become blocked, or after a weekend in which you’ve had a bit too much, and on Monday your intestines may be a little slower, use natural laxatives, such as drinking water eating dried prunes or any other natural laxative you are familiar with.

5. Walk, do exercises, move your body. Do not use chemical laxatives they will only make interesting lazy and will stimulate them to work less well. They may also kill your intestinal flora. I am not familiar with anybody proof of the effects of probiotic yoghurts, but many of my friends say that when they have eaten them, the functioning of their intestines improves.

So here are a few tips. Please remember, when in doubt always consult your doctor. Moreover, do not become radical, don’t go into crazy diets, nor anything that a friend may have read on the Internet. There are no miracle cures. The best for your body is a well balanced diet, varied and rich in colours, full of life!f

See you next week.

What is concentration?

According to the dictionary, concentration is to give full attention and energy to something.

Everyday I hear people say that if only they were interrupted less during their daily activities, their productivity and focus would greatly increase.

But what do I gain from increasing my concentration?

You gain increased productivity and more energy to get things done. This is because a well-trained mind makes everything easier and more efficient. You will not have to do the same things over again because you had not noticed small mistakes in the first place. Increased productivity often means more free time for you, for your children, family, sports etc …

When was the last time you trained your concentration?

Most people do not train their concentration. This is because it is still an unknown discipline and perhaps somewhat obscure to us.

But I assure you, a little dedication in your routine and you will feel your productivity soar.

There is nothing more powerful than a well-trained mind.

When you combine concentration + discipline + focus, you are unstoppable. This clearly defines those that succeed in life and those who do not. Those who haven’t this powerful tool in their hands invariably share the same self talk: “it’s because he is lucky”, “God is with him”, “it looks like he was made or it”, “the stars help” and a bunch of further excuses.

A well-trained mind produces wealth and harmony around you, driving emotional stability and happiness.

Do I need to spend 6 months in Tibet or India dressed in strange clothes?

These things described above have a name: prejudice, fantasy, myth. Increasing your ability to concentrate depends uniquely and exclusively on whether you train, engage and direct your attention to such a thing. Nothing else makes excellent exercise of concentration, as it does to keep working where you work, live where you live and with whom you live.

What does what I eat, drink and smoke have to do with my concentration?

With much experience working in this area, we can guarantee that these are things known to really “drain” your attention and your body. This happens when the body is not well maintained, with excellent maintenance, when you keep ignoring it and do not exercise it, when you keep eating poorly, drinking, and pretending that back pain has gone after all). However disciplined you are, you will not have the same productivity, as it the body hasn’t got any outlet.

A McLaren running with diesel?

Ever imagined a Formula 1 car, racing with a flat tyre, or working with diesel instead of petrol?

Yeah, your body is not much different. And, quite simply, if badly maintained, the most developed machine in this universe will yield 30, 40 and even 70% less than it should. You know what I’m talking about, when you have those days when you simply cannot concentrate. When the work does not get done. When it seems that everything is out of order for no apparent reason.

And why are you not looking at what you did during the day or days earlier – such as sleep less, eat more at dinner, inject caffeine into the body and allow stress to dominate your day.

Alcohol, the silent villain

This is a taboo subject in our society, wherever you go in the world the human being makes use of narcotics (from ancient Greek ναρκῶ Närko, ‘Ι benumb’), yet the body always pays a price. The seat of consciousness exists in our brain, and to receive any amount of alcohol, however small, will create alterations, causing decreased concentration and small lapses of consciousness, imperceptible to the individual, but increasing the reduction of concentration.

Very far from your reality?

That lapse of a few minutes lost when you had to remember those passwords or keys or mobile phone that you lost during the day, all these minutes add up to a few days of work in one year’s time. Time that you could have spent with family, friends, doing sports etc …

I do not want to become a ninja or a Karate Kid

Again, these myths created by Hollywood films deter people with excellent development potential, to whom it would be natural to increase concentration, gain memory and clarity of thought. And with nothing more than closing the eyes and train a simple technique of concentration for a few minutes.

I do not believe any of these things

Provided you are executing them well, the wonder of these techniques is that you do not need to believe in them. You can tell a massage therapist you do not believe in his or her techniques, but if he or she is good, the techniques will surely produce the effects. You could also say that you do not believe in anesthesia from a dentist, but I do not believe that you would undergo a dental filling without such an injection, even if you do not believe in it.

Attention is the cognitive process of selectively concentrating on one aspect of the environment while ignoring other things. Attention has also been referred to the allocation of the processing of resources. Alcohol That is the principle given to ardent spirit and wine. Their intoxicating power, while the narcotic principle to opium and tobacco imparts similar properties. In popular language, alcohol is classed among the stimulants, and opium and tobacco among the narcotics; which substances are whose ultimate effect upon the beast system is to produce torpor and insensibility, but taken in small quantities they exhilarate at first. And since alcohol does the same, most medical writers, at the present day, class it among the narcotics.

Is it more important to have a strong body or to be flexible?

What it is more important? To be flexible or strong and muscular, like RoboCop?

Imagine a person who has difficulty moving, imprisoned by poor mobility tying up their shoes… How agonising! To even get out of bed or pick up a toothbrush that fell to the bathroom floor would be an immense effort…

It turns out that at this very moment, as you read this article, we age slowly.

Our body will “solidify” the joints, muscles and tendons, giving us less and less flexibility, until we reach the point when we need assisted help to tie our shoes, get out of bed and pick something up that just fell on the floor.

Lack of flexibility is not a natural thing, and sedimentation, which is slow and gradual, is due to lack of care and maintenance to the body, and this is how we live.

Everyone knows that when you buy a car, you need to do periodical maintenance. It is written in the user manual, the seller will tell you and the lights in the car will warn you to go and do it. Done, the car is like new!

Now just imagine you buy the car and never change the oil, instead of gasoline you put alcohol, salt, saturated fats, limitless amounts of sugars, you never change the tires or add air filters, oil, brake fluid, bearings …

Instead of lasting 200,000 miles or more, the car would last 20,000 and would be completely ruined by the end.

Now, imagine ourselves, eating a considerable amount of unnecessary things, seldom observing our frugality, we may properly exercise at the gym, pushing ourselves to the maximum, working without rest, always breathing as someone who is ill (using only the upper part of the lungs) … On Sundays excessively drinking more and more beer and wine and still holding onto an illusion of advancing towards old age in good health together with our children and grandchildren. Isn’t a little bit of illusion not the same?

Stretching is one of the most powerful and enjoyable ways to keep us flexible and healthy. In just one session we can produce energy in our body, create mild detoxification, increase flexibility in major joints and create a state of weightlessness and strength. Yes, you read that correct, strength within the body and almost no other technique can do it.

Army of Robocops

And it is with some sadness that I see men and women with strong and well-sculpted bodies, in pairs, coming out of gyms and fitness centres, as if on a production line.

Why is it we hold a false idea that swollen muscles defined by weightlifting is healthy?

For me and many other professionals in our area, a strong and flexible body is healthy and does not need to be enlarged for this purpose. It can be well defined and yet flexible. Who says a simple increase in muscle size means he is healthy?

Professionals

There is a need for he who does, to know what he does, having been trained for this and not just someone who titles himself ” a stretching instructor.”

Unfortunately, errors in the exercises instead of promoting health produce problems in the joints, muscles, spine and later on to the brain by seriously affecting the sense of balance. If this is not stopped and corrected it could put the person in serious bad health and discomfort.

Benefits

Validate benefits and you weaken something that has more to offer than just immediate results.

We do not like to validate benefits, but as this word is almost a disease in modern times, let it …

If you do things the right way you will:

  • Increase energy in the body.
  • It will not eliminate stress, but will destroy it completely, because it will prevent it from returning.
  • By avoiding stress, you will eliminate a series of pains and diseases such as some ulcers.
  • Increase your body awareness.
  • Create a permanent state of health in the body.
  • You will feel lighter during your day to day.
  • Increased body awareness will help you avoid some bruising, tensions and among others torticollis.
  • Muscles prevent the consumption of energy that could be used at the end of the day on family activities, for yourself, your hobbies etc …
  • Relieve most back pain, shoulder, neck, arm and other tendinitis

A “To do” for your Healthy Daily Life

Abdominal Contractions. Do this exercise regularly…

Will help you dissipate the tension accumulated in your abdominal area and purify your internal organs. The abdominal contractions act as a massage on your whole digestive system. It also is anti-depressive, anti-aging and self-empowering as it acts on important glands and plexuses such as the enteric nervous system. Spread your feet shoulder width apart, bend your knees slightly and press your hands pointing inward against the top of your thighs. Incline your torso forward and exhale all the air from your lungs. While holding without air, lungs completely empty, make dynamic abdominal contractions: pull your abdomen inward and upward strongly and deeply and then release it. Make as many contractions as you can while holding your breath. The first time you carry out this exercise you should aim at making 10 strong abdominal contractions per breath repeat the exercise three times. With practice you will increase the number of contractions you can make each time that you hold your breath.
